SkyScan Atomic Clock Model 31420 Manual
INTRODUCTION: Congratulations on purchasing this state-of-the-art Atomic Alarm Clock as an example of superior design and engineering, providing WWVB radio controlled time and date. This innovative fold up travel alarm clock is compact and ideal when traveling or for home or office use. By reading this operating manual, the user will receive a better understanding of the Atomic Alarm Clock together with the optimum benefit of all its features. FEATURES:
1. Open the battery compartment cover.2. Insert 2 "AAA" batteries observing the correct polarity(+)and (-)as indicated.3. Replace the battery compartment cover. QUICK SET UP:
ATOMIC ALARM CLOCK LCD SCREEN DESCRIPTIONSOnce the batteries are inserted, all the segments will light up displaying the information for time, date, day, and indoor temperatures.WWVB RADIO CONTROLLED TIMEThe NIST radio station, WWVB, is located in FI. Collins, Colorado and transmits the exact time signal continuously throughout the United States at 60 kHz. The signal can be received up to 2,000 miles away through the internal antenna in the Atomic Clock. However, due to the nature of the Earth's Ionosphere, reception is very limited during daylight hours. The Atomic Clock will search for a signal every night when reception is best. The WWVB radio station derives its signal from the NIST Atomic clock in Boulder, Colorado. A team of atomic physicists continually measures every second of every day to an accuracy of ten billionths of a second a day. These physicists have created an international standard, measuring a second as 9,192,631,770 vibrations of a Cesium 133 atom in a vacuum. This Atomic Clock regulates the WWVB transmitter. Once the batteries are placed in the battery compartment, the WWVB tower icon in the clock display will start flashing on the display. This indicates that the clock has detected a radio signal and is trying to receive it. When the time code is received, the WWVB tower becomes static on the display. If the tower icon flashes, but does not set the; time and date, then please take note of the following:
MANUAL SETTINGSNote: Solid Tower Icon indicates a positive reception of the signal. If the Atomic Alarm Clock has already successfully received the WWVB time signal and displays the correct time and date, then the Manual settings can be omitted. After completion of the above described procedures in "Setting up" to "Quick set up," manual settings can be entered. The following settings can now be programmed:
DST-TIME-CALENDAR SETTINGIn case the Atomic Alarm Clock is not able to detect the WWVB-signal (disturbances, transmitting distance, etc.), the time can be manually set. The clock will then work as a normal Quartz clock. 1. At normal time mode, push the "Time Set " button for 2 seconds and release when you hear a beep. D- -T will blink on the display indicating DST is on. To change to standard time (DST off),press either arrow key and S--T will appear.2. Press Time Set again to change the Hour by pressing the arrow key.3. Press Time Set again to change the Minute by pressing the arrow key.4. Press Time Set again to change the Year by pressing the arrow key.5. Press Time Set again to change the Month by pressing the arrow key.6. Press Time Set again to change the Date by pressing the arrow key.Note: The unit will still try and receive the signal every day despite it being manually set. When it does receive the signal, it will change the manually set time into the received time. DST SETTING (daylight saving time)1. Press the Time Set for 2 seconds until you hear a beep then release. D- -T will blink on the display indicating that this function is ON. To change this to Standard Time (DST OFF), press either arrow key when D-T is blinking and the display will show S--T blinking to indicate that DST is off. The blinking will stop in one minute saving the last DST setting. Note:The DST default is "ON," meaning that the WWVB will automatically change the time according to Daylight Saving Time in the spring and fall. For areas that do not recognize DST changes (Arizona and parts of Indiana) turn the DST "OFF."Alarm Time Setting1) At normal time mode, push the "Alarm Set" button .for2 seconds and release when you hear a beep to enter the alarm time setting mode.2) The Hour of the alarm time will blink. Press either arrow button until the correct alarm Hour is selected. Be sure to set the AM and PM proper ly.3) Press "Alarm Set" button again to select the alarm minute using the arrow buttons.4) Press "Alarm Set" button again to exit the alarm time setting mode.5) Slide the alarm switch to ON to activate the alarm. A bell icon appearance on the display indicates the alarm is on.6) The alarm functions as follows:"ALARM ON"-alarm will sound for 1 minute. When the alarm time arrives, slide the alarm switch to OFF to stop the alarm. "SNOOZE ON"-alarm will sound 1 minute every day. When the alarm time arrives, it will sound again every 5 minutes. When the alarm rings, press "SNOOZE/LIGHT" button to stop the alarm sound, but 5 minutes later it will ring again."ALARM OFF" means the alarm is disabled. The bell icon disappearance indicates the alarm is off. 12/24 HOURS TIME DISPLAY SETTING Press "12/24" button to choose 12 or 24 Hr display format. °C OR °F TEMPERATURE SETTINGPress °C/°F button to choose Celsius or Fahrenheit format for temperature. This model will check the temp. Every 30 secondsSNOOZE SETTINGThe snooze can only be activated during alarm time for a snooze duration of 5 minutes.EL Display lightThe EL display backlight is activated when the snooze bar is pressed and released. The EL light will stay on for 3-5 seconds and then turn off. TROUBLESHOOTING Problem: The LCD is faint.Solution: Replace the batteries. Problem: No reception of WWVB signalSolution: 1) It may help reception to face the front of the Atomic Clock in the general direction of Ft. Collins. Colorado.2) Wait overnight for signal.3) Be sure the Atomic Alarm Clock is at least 6 feet (2meters) from any electrical devices. i.e. TV sets, computers, or other radio controlled clocks.4) Remove batteries for five minutes, reinsert and leave the unit alone overnight without pressing any keys. Problem: Hour is incorrect (minute and date are correct).Solution: Be sure the correct time zone and daylight saving time are selected. CARE AND MAINTENANCE:
